Subject: Bro. James P Dunne SJ

Today, July 14, 2003, Bro. James P. Dunne, SJ joined our Maker. He
had a heart attack and was rushed to the hospital and he didn’t make
it.

For those of you who don’t know, Bro Dunne was instrumental in the
return of DAYS to the High School in the early 80s as well as the
expansion to other school communities including Maryknoll, Poveda,
St. Scho, UP Diliman and others.

The wake will either be in the Ateneo High School or Loyola House.

More details to follow.

i have always believed that whenever i come back to the high school, i could still see this big guy in a trolley, trying to bump a student who gets in his way, all of course in good fun. he always wears The Smile that makes us feel that the High School is our home…

bro is like the jug and post list, it’s always there. i could not imagine coming back to the high school campus without yelling ‘BRO!’

    i miss him already…

    Hi,

I was a classmate of James Dunne at La Salle Academy, New York, NY from 1949-1953. James was suppose to be at our 50th reunion on June 4-5 in NYC, but he did not attend. We knew he was coming from the Phillipines and we were concerned when he did not appear. Unfortunately, we did not know whom to contact. I would appreciate any information you can provide and/or an e-mail address of someone for whom he worked. His classmates would be interested in learning about his work and would like to express condolences to his family.

    Thank you.

    Hello Joe!
Thank you so much for writing!

One way of contacting his place of work is through our common correspondence with our school… alumni@admu.edu.ph

“Bro”, as we fondly call him in the high school, is very influential to a lot of high school kids. He has changed people’s lives for the better.

I was able to talk to his brother, Bob, when he went here. When Bob spoke during the mass, everyone’s bowed heads looked up and thought “Bro” was still there talking to us. Bob had the New Yorker accent we know of “Bro”. Men in their 20’s and 30’s cried like they’ve never cried before.

One reason I go back to the high school is because of “Bro”. He’s like an older brother I never had.

We miss him so much. I miss him so much. Going back to my high school is never gonna be the same.
