Secret Weapons Over Normandy

A few days after buying Final Fantasy X-2, I bought Secret Weapons Over Normandy, Prince Of Persia: The Sands OF Time, and Socom II: US Navy Seals. I haven’t really played the last 2 games yet as I got hooked with SWON. I have been looking for a game like this for soooo long!

You get to fly different types of aircraft. This also includes manning anti-aircraft guns. The targets are also numerous from the usual fighters, bombers, patrol boats, u-boats, tanks, and including reconnaissance cars.

Graphics: Acceptable with all other flying games. The detail on the aircrafts and other models were quite well-crafted enough to keep you playing. And the details on the terrain help give you a sense of depth enough to avoid any crash landings.

Audio: You’ll hear a lot of chatter from your allies and enemies as well. The voices are believable and well done. The engine roars and plane flights are realistic. And as you progress in the game you get to unlock videos where you can see that they have recorded the actual engine sounds of the aircrafts.

Controls: The learning curve is just a matter of a few minutes. Tutorials can easily help you get started with flying your first hurricane. One useful tool with the game is the target reticle that automatically calculates the lead distance you need to hit the target. Another tool is the time-shift, it allows you to slow down time or increase it. Slowing down time helps you aim better while making time move faster allows you to reach objectives in less time.

Gameplay: I can’t compare it to other flight simulations because it is not. Yes, SWON is not a flight simulation game but more of an arcade type of air combat game. I just can’t stop playing. Aside from the campaign missions, you will occasionally get challenge missions to unlock new aircraft or videos. The 2-player option allows you to play against each other.

Overall: Secret Weapons Over Normandy has made me put aside my other recently bought games. Maybe it was the simplicity of the game. And maybe I just want to shoot out planes and watch them come crashing to the ground. This was a good buy!
