Resistance: Retribution

From wikipedia:
Resistance: Retribution is an upcoming third-person shooter handheld game developed for Sony’s PlayStation Portable. It was announced on July 15, 2008 at Sony’s E3 press conference and is scheduled for release on March 12, 2009 in Japan, March 13, 2009 in Europe, and March 17, 2009 in North America.

Plot
Retribution follows the story of British Royal Marine James Grayson in the weeks following the destruction of the Chimeran tower in London at the end of Resistance: Fall of Man. After being forced to kill his brother Jonny inside a Chimeran conversion center, James suffers a violent nervous breakdown and is imprisoned for desertion.

The European resistance – the Maquis – enlist Grayson’s help, and he joins Cartwright and Parker in Operation Overstrike to retake the European continent from the Chimera. Grayson immediately embarks on a vendetta to eliminate every conversion center he can find to avenge his brother. However, he learns that the Chimera have evolved a new method of converting humans in Western Europe.

FEATURES

  • Several multiplayer modes, including “Infected Mode” and “Resistance Retribution Plus” which extends gameplay for players who have a PS3 and a copy of Resistance 2.
  • A third person action-adventure game created specifically for PSP that bridges Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2.
  • Revolutionary Targeting System: Advanced third person targeting system designed specifically for the PSP system.
  • Over 10 different types of enemies, including Chimera from Resistance 2 and Resistance: Fall of Man (the Titan, Slipskull, Hybrids and Leapers) and all new enemies like the Hag and Cloven.
  • Intense eight player multiplayer gameplay with five game modes including Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Containment and Assimilation available via ad-hoc and infrastructure.

Basically, the game is awesome. I played it last night with headphones on and the sound was great! And playing it without lights on added to the excitement. It gave me the creeps especially when the enemies came closer and a heavy heartbeat started beating… something like from out of a horror movie and the villain is about to kill somebody. Resistance: Retribution felt like a cross between Resident Evil and Syphon Filter.

With the new targeting system, you get an aim-box and any target within that box gets targeted. It’s like an auto-aim but gives you more freedom to move to another target. What I just hate is when I have to zoom in to shoot the Boilers in the head to kill them. Oooh I just want to pop their heads off!

What I also like is the defensive move. You could hide behind almost anything and just poke yourself to shoot. If you get close to a crate or wall, your character will automatically crouch or hide behind it.

Sometimes you do get help from other characters. But they don’t provide much firepower.

On the part where Raine Bouchard seduces James Grayson…. I was hoping to see more. Hehehe!

Th ending was tough but it can be done. James is now like a “ghost”! The best PSP game I have played so far! Sorry God Of War, I like Resistance: Retribution now. :D

After upgrading to CFW 4.01 last October 12, Dark Alex has once again released Team M33’s latest CFW, 5.00.

It has been released last October 17 but I waited for a while for CFW 5.00 M33 to stabilize. After the initial release, several bugs came out and I wanted it to be fixed first.

CFW 5.00 M33-3 was released last October 23. So far M33-3 is a bit stable. A major bug has been fixed since M33-2.

CFW 5.00 M33 Improvements:

  • Sleep Timer – You can now set a timer when playing music.
  • USB Auto-Connect – The system automatically changes to USB mode when a USB cable is connected.
  • New XMB wave
  • Full-Screen keyboard – QWERTY keyboard has been added.
  • PlayStation Network
  • PlayStation Store
  • Several Bug Fixes

I just finished upgrading to CFW 5.00 M33-3 and so far all of my games are working well. No problems whatsoever. My PSP is a Slim Sony PSP ver. 4.01 M33-2. Take note that the instructions are different for the Fat Sony PSP.

This is a step-by-step guide to upgrading your PSP Custom Firmware. I hope this tutorial will help you safely upgrade your PSP to the latest CFW. However, remember that there is a risk involved that you might brick your PSP and render it useless. Just make sure you fulfill all the requirements.

*Warning: Please follow the instructions properly. Do these at your own risk.

Requirements:

  1. Sony PSP Slim
  2. Custom Firmware (CFW) 4.01 M33-x. (Please do not attempt this on official Sony firmwares. Older CFWs will also not work.) You need at least CFW 4.01 M33-x by Dark-Alex.
  3. Wireless network (Wifi). Make sure your PSP Wifi connection is setup properly. You need to connect to the internet to retrieve the latest update files.
  4. More than 80% battery
  5. At least 30MB memory stick space. The update already takes up 26MB space.
  6. You also have to enable the network update of the M33 Custom firmware or you will end up updating to the official Sony firmware.

To check if CFW M33 Network Update is enabled, go to recovery mode:

  1. Shutdown your PSP. Make sure it is not in sleep mode.
  2. Turn on your PSP while holding the R button.
  3. When recovery mode appears, go to Configuration
  4. Make sure this is what appears, Use M33 Network Update (Currently Enabled)
